We have nearly 60 years of combined software engineering and management experience in both the defense and commercial industries.
Ken and Ryan Symons
Ken Symons has over 28 years of experience as a software engineer in the commercial and defense industries. His experience includes embedded software development on GPPs, DSPs and 16/32-bit microprocessors as well as application development in the Microsoft Windows, iOS and Android software environments.
Ken has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Potsdam and a master’s degree in Software Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Ken holds a US Patent #7577116 relating to the development of a TDMA communications waveform over a satellite link.
Ryan is Ken’s teenage son. Ryan’s interest in karate was the reason why the first two educational Android applications (UMACquiz and UMACapp) were produced for his karate school; the United Martial Arts Center in Victor, NY. Ryan enjoys acting in a test engineering capacity and ensures that our products maintain a “youthful” look and feel!
Jerry Saeva has over 30 years of experience as a software engineer and manager in the commercial and defense industries. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology with a specialty in relational database design.
Jerry’s experience includes embedded software development as well as application development in both the MS Windows and Android software environments. His experience also includes senior-level management positions in charge of programs often exceeding multi-million dollar levels.
Jerry has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in Software Engineering also from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Jerry holds a US Patent #7577116 relating to the development of a TDMA communications waveform over a satellite link.
Tech Marketing Masters Group
Depending on your project’s needs, we also collaborate with a group of professionals who are experts in their particular fields. We can incorporate their subject matter expertise as needed in even the most complex of projects. The following scientists and engineers are members of the Tech Marketing Masters Group:
Chris Conlan – Data Scientist and Technical Author
Chris Conlan began his career as an independent data scientist specializing in trading algorithms.
He attended the University of Virginia where he completed his undergraduate statistics coursework in three semesters. During his time at UVA, he secured initial fundraising for a privately held high-frequency forex group as president and chief trading strategist.
He went on the publish two books, Automated Trading with R, and The Blender Python API. Chris continues to expand his horizons as a data analyst and software developer as he serves large and small clients in the D.C. Metropolitan Area.
He is currently in Bethesda, Maryland managing private companies in financial trading, machine vision, and technical consulting.
James Kelly – Software Engineer and Mathematical Consultant
James Kelly is an Astrophysics PhD and software engineer with 5 years industry experience working in research and development. He graduated from with a 1st Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and received an award from the UK’s Institute of Mathematics for outstanding academic achievement.
During his PhD James published several papers and presented his research at multiple international conferences.
Following his PhD James worked for a startup firm developing a mobile router firmware using embedded Linux and C. The mobile routers have provided over 90 million users with Wifi.
James then moved into the area of navigation and surveying where he lead a team of 3 developers building precise algorithms using GNSS, Computer Vision and Sensor Fusion algorithms. During this time James lead the development of a government-funded UAV navigation system for civil use, and computer vision based navigation system for the defence industry.
Eric Scheier – Quantitative Analyst
Eric Scheier has spent the past decade using data science to spur the deployment of transformative technologies, primarily in clean technology and financial technology.
He has conducted peer-reviewed research on renewable energy systems, developed market intelligence pipelines and production-grade trading systems for multi-million dollar portfolios, and extracted value from myriad datasets using machine learning and data visualization.
Eric received a dual degree in Environmental Science and Economics from the University of North Carolina, began his career at a startup in the commercial solar space from seed to Series A, and has been providing independent consulting and advisory services to clients around the world since 2013.
Steve Nawara – Data Scientist and R Developer
Stephen Nawara received a PhD in Pharmacology from Loyola University Chicago, during which he discovered a love for programming and data analysis. There, he developed a semi-automated method for assessing the location of brain lesions in a rodent, as well as a stochastic theoretical model of rodent behavior.
He has since leveraged that experience to become an independent R developer, data scientist, and tutor. Stephen excels at applying advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to diverse datasets including financial, bioinformatics, spatial, and behavioral timeseries. Specifically, he has had success in applying techniques such as Classification and Regression Trees (e.g., xgboost), neural networks (e.g., Tensorflow), and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (e.g., JAGs, Stan).
